Information & Referral

What is Information & Referral?

The Information & Referral process helps match people with appropriate services in the community.

Community agency staff members often act as intermediaries, matching the clients they serve with the necessary combination of human services to meet their individual needs.

How Can myCommunity Help?

The myCommunity program has developed a comprehensive online database of human services information.

Our human services database is classified using the AIRS-InfoLINE Taxonomy of Human Services.  The AIRS Taxonomy is a classification system that provides the capability to index and access community resources based on the services provided, and the target populations served, if any.

Local human service agencies through their Community Workspaces, update and maintain information relating to their agency, programs and services offered.  The information they provide is key to assisting clients and the community at large find programs and services that meet their needs in a convenient, easy to access location.

The Social Planning Council of Sudbury is a member of InformCanada, a national organization of public, nonprofit and government information & referral providers.

Our memberships with InformCanada, AIRS and the provincial affiliate InformOntario, provides leadership in the areas of standards, accreditation, marketing, development and information technology.  It also provides an opportunity to stay connected with other information & referral providers across Canada, and abroad.  These connections are important for providers in other communities needing access to Sudbury-based information and services.
