Universities receive funding from the Ontario government. Universities offer the following types of programs:
- Undergraduate programs leading to a bachelor degree.
- Graduate programs leading to master's and doctorate degrees.
- Programs leading to certificates or diplomas.
- Programs offered by colleges and universities, in a special partnership, that let students earn a university degree and a college diploma at the same time.
Laurentian University, which is also home to the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, is Greater Sudbury's only University.

Laurentian International provides help and opportunities for students in other countries who wish to live and study in the LU community.

A joint initiative of Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and Laurentian University in Sudbury, the School offers a world class, four-year MD program clearly based on the needs of the region and the people it serves. The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) welcomed its charter class in 2005 and is Canada’s first new medical school in more than 30 years. |
