Buying/Selling a Vehicle in Ontario

Home >> Living >> Transportation >> Buying/Selling a Vehicle in Ontario

There are a few things you should consider when you are buying a new vehicle or buying/selling a used vehicle.  The following topics will help you to get started.

Vehicle Licensing Requirements

You must obtain a license for most motor vehicles in Ontario, which may involve different rules from what you are used to.  Ontario's basic standards for vehicles include registration, insurance and maintenance, and more.  See the Ontario Ministry of Transportation's "Introduction to Licensing a Vehicle in Ontario" for more information.

Buying a New Vehicle

The Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC) is the body responsible for administering the Ontario Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (MVDA).  Their mandate is to maintain a fair, safe and informed marketplace in Ontario by protecting the rights of consumers, enhancing industry professionalism and ensuring fair, honest and open competition for registered motor vehicle dealers.  You can visit their site to search for registered dealers in the Greater Sudbury area.

Buying or Selling a Used Vehicle

The rules for buying/selling used vehicles in Ontario are different than they are for buying/selling new vehicles.  Click here for more information about buying or selling a used vehicle.
