mySudbury Community Portal Sponsorship Policy

Vision:

SmartSudbury, an initiative of e-sudbury.com, envisions Greater Sudbury as a City of the future: a community that uses information and communications technologies in new and innovative ways to empower its residents, institutions and the community as a whole.

In addition to the SmartSudbury vision, those individuals given the authority to approve sponsorship requests on MySudbury.ca will utilize the following guidelines:

1.      Greater Sudbury’s community portal is not commercial in nature, but businesses and community groups may be permitted to purchase advertising in specific areas of the portal to promote themselves and their activities.

2.      Sponsorship opportunities will be pre-determined by SmartSudbury.

3.      MySudbury.ca is a community portal with family audiences and content should therefore be appropriate for an audience that may include children.

4.      Tobacco advertising will not be permitted.

5.      Liquor advertising will not be permitted.

6.      As MySudbury.ca is a community portal, preference will be given to local businesses and organizations.

7.      SmartSudbury reserves the right to restrict sponsorships from or for political campaigns, political parties, or candidates for elected positions in terms of location on the portal, and relative to the timing of an election or specific public debate.

8.      Sponsorships cannot mislead the user or resemble content contributed by another party within the portal environment.

9.      Sponsorships cannot mimic news headlines in design, tone, third person sentence structure, or topic, and may be required to be labelled as advertising.

10. Sponsorship ads will only appear on the home page and the personalized home page of the portal, as determined by SmartSudbury staff. No other advertising/sponsorship will be permitted in the portal environment.

11. Pop-up advertising is not permitted.

Definitions:

“Sponsorship Ad”: A large advertisement intended to be located at the bottom, left or right section of the screen with one single advertising message.  Four spots available.  Two on main portal home page, two on all individual “mysudbury” personalized pages.

Procedures:

·        Users who wish to purchase sponsorship ads are required to provide their own graphic files as per SmartSudbury’s specifications. SmartSudbury does not provide graphic files, and does not develop them for sponsors.

·        Sponsorship content must be submitted to SmartSudbury staff for review and approval. SmartSudbury reserves the right to preserve the user experience of the portal.

·        SmartSudbury reserves the right to remove any sponsorship ad which is deemed annoying and/or harmful to our users.

How to Apply to Place an Ad:

·        Businesses and/or organizations that wish to sponsor the portal must submit their ad, for initial review, their ad content in accordance with procedures established by the SmartSudbury staff.

·        Sponsorship ads will then be reviewed by a SmartSudbury staff person, who will make the final decision on advertisement approval and placement on the portal within the guidelines established by this Policy.

·        Those who wish to appeal a staff decision regarding the approval of a sponsorship ad will submit their appeal in writing to the SmartSudbury staff, who will review the appeal and create a report outlining the rationale for the approval or disapproval.

Fees:

Market fees may be charged for sponsoring.  These fees are set at the discretion of SmartSudbury management, and are used solely for the purpose of sustaining the community portal. Contact the SmartSudbury team at 705-674-4455 ext. 4665 for the latest sponsorship fees.

Fees may be different for not-for-profit groups than for businesses, and fee structures may be modified to support values other than revenues.
